Another short railroad which later proved highly valuable to the Central was the Savannah, Griffin and North Alabama.

This company was chartered Feb. 11, 1854, to build a line between Griffin and Carrollton. Construction on this now-important link with Chattanooga did not begin until 1870.

Part of this road was operated by the Macon and Western during 1870, and in 1871, with the road completed to Newnan, the Savannah, Griffin and North Alabama took over the operation. The line was completed to Carrollton in 1874.

The Savannah and Western Railroad Company acquired the railroad Nov. 26, 1890, later becoming part of the Central of Georgia.
