This connection at Eufaula on the Chattahoochee formed another spoke in Central’s line extending into Alabama. The line was built originally from Eufaula to Clayton, a distance of 21 miles, in 1872.

The Eufaula and Clayton was the successor to the Vicksburg and Brunswick Railroad Company, the railroad that did the actual construction. It was incorporated Jan. 23, 1867, was sold at Chancery Sale Feb. 3, 1879, and reorganized as the Eufaula and Clayton Railroad Company March 31, 1883.

The Eufaula and Clayton was consolidated with the Savannah and Western July 31, 1888.

The line from Clayton to Ozark was built under the name of the Eufaula and East Alabama Railway Company. Built in 1887 and 1888, the main line mileage was 39 miles.

It too was consolidated with the Savannah and Western on July 31, 1888.
