First incorporated June 13, 1860, this railroad provided one of the important extensions of the Central into Alabama.

Actual construction was begun in 1869 and completed to Montgomery in 1870 with a main line mileage of 81 miles. In 1879 the railroad was purchased by the Central Rail Road and Banking Company and placed in the hands of a trustee. After reorganization, it operated as the Montgomery and Eufaula Railroad Company until it was sold at Judicial Sale Dec. 7, 1895, to Samuel Thomas and Thomas F. Ryan. It was conveyed to the Central of Georgia Dec. 14, 1895.
