2024 Calendar Now Available

The Central of Georgia Railway Historical Society is pleased to announce the publication of our new 2024 Central of Georgia calendar. The 13-month calendar features black & white photographs of passenger and freight trains (including steam and diesel) at various cities on the CofGa. Important dates in the history of the Central of Georgia and subsidiary lines are also included.

Most of the images used in the 2024 calendar are from the Society’s collection. The calendar is available from our online store here and at all of the train shows we attend.

Fall Meeting Scheduled for October 13–14, 2023, in Savannah, Ga.

The fall membership meeting of the Central of Georgia Railway Historical Society, Inc., has been scheduled for Friday–Saturday, October 13–14, 2023, in Savannah, Ga. Our meeting will include a presentation on the CofGa in Savannah, our annual business meeting (including elections for Board of Directors), a visit to the Georgia State Railroad Museum, and a tour of various CofGa and general railroad sites in the Savannah area. (Note that this announcement, as well as biographical information for the Board of Directors, was mailed to members in early September.)

Our business meeting (including elections for Board of Directors) and presentation will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday night, October 13, 2023, in the fellowship hall at Hope Baptist Church (11100 White Bluff Road, Savannah, GA 31419). The parking lot and entrance are located behind the building.

On Saturday morning, we’ll gather at 9:00 a.m. at the Georgia State Railroad Museum in Savannah (655 Louisville Rd, Savannah, GA 31401). While there, we’ll see the Society’s 1925 CofGa flat car, two recently painted CofGa cabooses, the restoration work done on CofGa 2-8-0 No. 223, as well as the museum’s other CofGa equipment (including office cars Atlanta and Columbus, and Inspection Car No. 2).

After lunch, we’ll take a driving tour of various CofGa (and other) railroad sites in Savannah and the surrounding areas. We’ll travel by van and can leave our cars at the museum parking lot. Tentative plans are to visit the former S&A Office building, see recent changes to trackage in and around the Georgia Ports Authority in Garden City, and follow the old CofGa mainline out of Savannah. We should be finished by around 3:00 p.m.

Note that we have not reserved a block of motel rooms. There are numerous motels in the Savannah area for those needing to stay overnight.

Members should register in advance by sending an e-mail to allen@cofga.org as soon as possible. This will also allow us to notify those attending of any last-minute changes. There is no cost to attend, but we need to know how many plan to be there.
